Épernay, capital of champagne
At the heart of the vineyards, Épernay unfolds its elegant Avenue de Champagne, lined with the greatest houses and kilometres of cellars dug into the chalk. Visiting one together, going down the cool staircases and then tasting a glass is already a memorable date. The town also offers concerts, friendly brasseries and lovely terraces for drawing the evening out.
Châlons and Lac du Der
Châlons-en-Champagne, a quiet prefecture, charms with its flowery canals and Saint-Étienne Cathedral. Small boats glide along the Mau and the Nau, a step from the ramparts. To the northeast, Vitry-le-François opens the way to Lac du Der-Chantecoq, a huge man-made lake perfect for a picnic, a bike ride or watching the common cranes in autumn.
Côte des Blancs and Marne treats
South of Épernay, the Côte des Blancs stretches its chardonnay vines across chalky hillsides, dotted with villages like Avize, Cramant or Vertus, where Mont Aimé offers a splendid panorama. For foodies, Sainte-Menehould delights lovers of pig’s trotters. On Lyad, members from the Marne share their favourite corners; it is up to you to find someone to roam them with.
